The nicest review I’ve ever had!

What a fabulous thing to wake up to!

Spanking Miss Sophia is still number one on Amazon.com and number two on Amazon.co.uk, and I check the pages daily to see if I get any new reviews. This morning I got the best one I ever had! I’m reposting it here so I can come back and look at it whenever I get depressed!

Ms Taylor has, with this book, set a standard for the genre that few other writers will be able to match. It is even better than her first book and that was a gem. The plot is simple enough: Griffin, Duke of Dorset, has inherited his uncle’s title and estates to go alongside his already vast fortune. With it comes guardianship of his uncle’s two young daughters (Lady Charlotte and Lady Amelia) and their dowries. The girls have been cared for by their half sister Miss Sophia and she too has a dowry that he must manage until she gets married. He plans to carry out his duties very well and brings all three to London to share his home. That seems best to him but naturally this brings him far more problems than he could ever envisage. It is in the characters that this apparently simple situation comes to life. There is Dorset himself; honourable, strong, reluctantly thinking he’d best marry to have an heir and just a little bit wary about crossing his formidable mother the Dowager Duchess. The Dowager Duchess is a wonderful creation; tough, awkward, irascible and hiding two things…a kindly side and a nasty secret. Lady Sophia is great; effectively the only mother her half sisters have known and determined both to protect them and continue as their mother figure. She is intelligent, passionate, strong willed, short tempered and absolutely has no intention of getting married. Lady Charlotte is a lovely little girl. Quiet, intelligent and hiding a determined nature and a fiercely protective nature. Lady Amelia is a daughter everyone should have. She is a delightful pain in the rear end. A girl so interested in animals in all their messy detail Griffin enquires, “Are you sure you’re a girl?” Then there is Veronica, Griffin’s beautiful and highly dangerous mistress. Ms Taylor stirs this mixture and takes the reader on a wonderful ride which is highly erotic, has a few mainly deserved sore bottoms and at time shad this reader howling with laughter. If you don’t crack up at the scene when Miss Sophia and the Dowager Duchess retell Sophia’s presentation to Queen Victoria then you simply don’t have a sense of humour. Of course there are no prizes for guessing the ending but it is the journey to it that is worth the read. Highly recommended for lovers of this genre. Oh, and just in case you think I have some connection to Ms Taylor….I don’t.

Thank you Amazon reviewer Tomsreads! You have made a stressed and  unhappy writer really cheerful!

Still number one!

Number one on Amazon.com in Victorian Erotica! And, well, bouncing up and down the top three on Amazon.co.uk, but currently at number two!

Spanking Miss Sophia

The Duke of Dorset is having a very bad day. One moment he is enjoying life as a single man in possession of the most beautiful mistress in London, and in the next he finds that he has inherited the guardianship of two orphaned cousins, daughters of his black-sheep uncle, the Earl of Shrewsbury.

These very young, very troublesome country cousins arrive as a package deal, along with their older half-sister, Miss Sophia Preston. She is a feisty, opinionated young woman of marriageable age, a stepdaughter to the deceased earl, in fact, who is determined to return her family to the countryside where they belong.

Sparks fly as Miss Sophia clashes not only with the duke, a thirty-year-old confirmed bachelor, but also with the duke’s mother, a grande dame in London society. The duchess has little patience with two small, difficult and noisy girls, and even less with their unrefined and yet outspoken country mouse of a half-sister.

Still, all the heat and friction produced amongst those three is nothing compared to the firestorm that ensues when the duke’s mistress, a courtesan of the very highest rank and quite full of herself, discovers that the duke is beginning to see Miss Sophia in an entirely different and quite romantic light!

Halloween Treats with Blushing Books!

halloweenanthology

Available on the 30th October – Halloween Treats! An anthology of short spanking stories with a spooky theme!

I have two short stories in this anthology – Happy Halloween and Trick or Treat.

Trick or Treat!

Art teacher Emily has spent all day prepping the Haunted House her school is running as part of their Halloween Fair and she can’t wait to show it to Peter, her new boyfriend. Peter is pretty much perfect: he’s tall, handsome, respectful, kind, and he does a fantastic job for the community in his role as a paramedic. Emily should be ecstatic with her loving boyfriend, but there’s just one problem – their sex lacks spark.

While she debates whether she can cope with a spark-less sex life, Emily drags a reluctant Peter around the Haunted House. The only problem is that Emily has made the Haunted House a little too scary, and she spooks Peter badly.

Now Emily discovers just how strong and dominant her boyfriend can be when he decides to give her a punishment spanking like she’s never had before. Perhaps the spark their relationship can be rekindled after all!

Happy Halloween!

Emma and Jack have just moved to a new town to start their lives together but they have to spend their first Halloween apart as computer coder Jack is sent away on business. Jack is a Halloween fanatic and has decorated their new home so well that all the neighbourhood come trick or treating on Halloween. He just wishes he could be there to hand out all the candy!

Emma, however, has a very different idea about what children should be given on Halloween – after all, she’s a dentist, and she knows all about the problems sugar causes in children’s teeth! When Jack returns to find out that Emma has ruined their Halloween reputation, there’s only one way to deal with this first domestic argument –a good spanking!

Five star reviews already posted for Spanking Miss Sophia!

“Don’t miss this book, it is a great romance with spanking and a mystery and a really bad person who is insanely after so many people that this person needs to be stopped. I love the the children in this book, I laughed and the interaction with the family members was really fun. Must read this book.”

Great book, has so much mystery, and romance and the children are so funny. I love the plot and the characters and the suspense is great . Don’t miss reading this book if you like a great read”

This is a fantastic spanking romance from the author. I really enjoyed her last book but wished it was longer. This one is! This is set in Victorian times, when a very happy bachelor duke is forced to become a family man when he is left as guardian to his adorable cousins. They come with their much older half-sister, and sparks fly between Sophia and the duke! This book has it all – spanking, romance, humour and well-written characters. I loved the icy grande dame duchess and I even liked the children who have very decided personalities and seem like real people, not just bits of plot that walk and talk. The villain was great too! This as a book that I will be reading again and again!”

My first bad review!

It happened! My cherry has been popped! I received my first bad review on Amazon!

Oh well. That five star review monopoly had to be lost at some point.

I honestly don’t mind the criticisms the writer has of the book; I actually think some of the things she says are valid. They are choices I made when I was writing the novel, and perhaps, in hindsight, I should have made different ones. I’ve written three books since then, and I’m almost finished with a fourth. Each book has taught me something different about plotting, characterisation and pacing – some of the most important parts of constructing a book. I’m going to be learning how to write for as long as I write, that much I know.

It’s just the mean-spirited contempt that the review was written with that makes me pause. She – and I assume that the person who reviewed the book was female – seems to have gone out of her way to be as offensive as possible while giving her opinion, down to accusing my friends and family of being the ones giving the positive reviews!

My friends and family largely have no idea that I write romantic spanking stories. They have no idea that I write at all, let alone that I’ve been published. I can’t tell people; I run the risk of getting in trouble at work and I don’t think that my parents would be overjoyed at the thought of my choice of genre although I know that they would be proud of me for succeeding in attracting the attention of a reputable publisher.

I think that particular barb, of all those that she so callously threw, hurt the most because it was so far off the mark. I’m a big girl, both literally and figuratively speaking.  I can take constructive criticism. What I can’t take, and won’t take, and refuse to tolerate is mean spirited nastiness.

This review has reviewed only three books since 2011, and chooses not to give her name. Or a pseudonym. Or even a nickname. Two of the three reviews are of one star. Mine is the only book she’s reviewed in her extensive experience that had been given two stars.

I have to wonder if my book is that bad (which of course, it could very well be) or whether I was unlucky enough to catch the attention of a bitter, unhappy, mean-spirited person who gets some kind of enjoyment from deliberately confusing constructive criticism with vomiting up spurious insults. A person who is not brave enough to sign their name, or any other name, to their writing, unlike myself or the other authors she has taken pleasure in leaving an unpleasant review for.

Well, I’ll probably never know the answer to that question. But as annoying as that two star review is to me, I know that she’s far more annoyed than I’ll ever be by the “amateur and disappointing” Spanking The Governess.

After all, she paid a whole $4.99 for it!

Just think, if she’s bought it when it was released for $2.99, I’d have made far less money from her!

“Very enjoyable”, “a great plot and sweet characters”, “suspense, action and romance” or “amateur and disappointing”?

Decide for yourself at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk where Spanking The Governess is currently sitting at #2 in the Victorian Erotica section and #4 in the Historical Erotica section!
